Tumble-nasium / Cheer-nasium is one of the leading, fastest growing tumbling, acro and cheer training organizations in the area. The Dance Academy of North Jersey will be providing dance faculty and curriculum alongside Tumble/Cheer-nasium at its Wayne-area facilities. This unique alliance, named DANCE-nasium, provides the opportunity to experience robust, professional tumbling, acro, cheer and dance training under one roof! DANCE-nasium has classes for young dancers thru teens, including jazz, hip hop, flip hop (tumble/hip-hop combo), tap, lyrical, musical theater, ballet, contemporary, stretch leap & turn, and more! Come to the OPEN HOUSE to learn more and take some great, free classes! Special guest Jess LeProtto will coming to the studio to lead a musical theater workshop for dancers ages 9-14 from 4:00 to 5:30pm!

Alexandra DeTrolio or “Miss Alex” has been dancing since the age of 3. Aside from growing up at her home studio she trained at New Jersey Ballet and was a member of the New Jersey Tap ensemble under the direction of Deborah Mitchell. She has performed with the New York Liberty “Lil Torches” and the Knicks City Dancers as a Knicks City Kid at Madison Square Garden. She is best known for her leap and turn training methods which have become well known not only in the competitive dance world but with gymnasts and ice dancers as well. Her students have been recognized in top ten overalls, regionally and nationally as title winners and received many special awards! She is currently on staff with Imagine Dance Challenge. Miss Alex’s attention to detail and passion for the job make her an asset to any staff!
Austin Reza received his early training at DANJ where, as a company dancer, he received many awards and recognition from multiple dance organizations. Austin also trained in modern and ballet at the Washington Ballet school intensives and as a youth company member of the Phoenix Project. In 2018, he had the honor of performing at the Capezio A.C.E. awards as a cast member in Jaclyn Walsh’s modern piece titled “Appalachian Spring." Austin has appeared in film and television, including NBC’s “Rise”, CBS’s “Instinct”, HBO’s “Happy Valley”, and MTV’s “TRL” as a featured dancer. Most recently, he was a member of the teaching staff at New Jersey Dance Theater Ensemble. Austin believes that to be a successful dancer in any genre, it takes a well-rounded education. He is currently attending Montclair State University and trains in voice and traditional acting in NYC.
Jenny LeProtto started dancing at age four, studying all forms of dance including tap with Mike Minery (Tapaholics, Slide, American Tap Festival, JUMP Director) and performing works by Ray Leeper (So You Think You Can Dance Choreographer, NUVO Director). While she trained in all forms of dance, Jenny's current fortes are teaching tap, hip hop and jazz, as well as teaching all styles of dance for young children. Jenny is best known for her tap choreography. She was recently recognized by American Dance Awards for many of her tap, jazz and lyrical pieces. Jenny’s work has been described as “intricate, polished and exciting!” Jenny is a graduate of Seton Hall University with a major in Education.
Jimmy Stuart was born and raised in Long Beach California. He began his path in dance under the guidance of some of the most sought after teachers and choreographers in the industry, most notably of internationally recognized master instructor, Paula Morgan. His journey with dance has allowed him to travel the country choreographing and teaching, as well as perform in numerous music videos, industrials, and live stage shows. Recent works include dancing for American Idol’s Lovey James, “The Vampire Diaries” star Kat Graham on her debut nation-wide tour, International K-Pop Star Kim Jang-Hoon’s “Miracle Tour”, and“Forever Dangerous” – a Michael Jackson tribute created by his original and long-time guitarist, Jennifer Batten.
Kristilee Maiella studied at The Dance Academy of North Jersey where she was trained with Jason Luks, Jaclyn Walsh, Angelica Stiskin, Lynn Grossman, and Terk Waters. In her final year of high school, she won the coveted ADA "America's Dancer of the Year" National Title and performed in the Capezio A.C.E. Awards as a cast member in Jaclyn Walsh's "Off The Grid". In her sophomore year as a dance major at Montclair State University, and member of the Department of Theatre and Dance’s Works-a-Foot, Kristilee was honored to perform in three landmark pieces: Horizon (chor. Early Mosley), To Have and To Hold (chor. Shapiro and Smith), and Gift (chor. Stacey Tookey). As a senior dance major at Montclair, Kristilee focuses on the performance aspects of dance, as well as training in ballet and modern technique.
Laura Van Peenen Merino is the owner and director of TumbLe-nasium & Cheernasium All Stars. She started gymnastics and dancing at the age of four and continued training in acro, ballet, pointe, modern, lyrical, and tap - studying with Chris Lee, Dawn LaViola-Schaub, and Yuliya Akopyan. Laura was on the artistic teaching staff at Performing Arts Academy for four years teaching acro, jazz, and hip-hop. She also taught gymnastics for ten years under the direction of Debbie Tahan. Prior to launching her own business, Laura taught dance and acrobatics at the Dance Academy of North Jersey. Laura graduated William Paterson University with a BA in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, & Psychology. She is also certified in CPR/AED & first aid.
Nicole Buonocore grew up dancing since the age of four. She competed as a child and teen, winning many awards on a regional and national level. Nicole was accepted to the conservatory at SUNY Purchase, where she began her college studies in dance. During her sophomore year, Nicole applied, and was accepted to the Jazz Program at The School at Jacob’s Pillow, where she was one of only 25 students to be accepted into the program. Nicole finished her college degree at The University of the Arts where she graduated with a BFA in Dance and a concentration in Jazz Theatre Studies. After college, she worked for Royal Caribbean as a dancer and performer. Nicole has been teaching a variety of dance styles for schools across the metro NY area and is safety certified in gymnastics.
